So yesterday we had a special business meeting after service to vote on selling our current property. It was an interesting meeting, with a lot of emotion from some people, but it yielded a positive result. The membership voted 64 - 16 in favor of selling our current property at Schoen St. and allowing the staff & deacons to find a new location to rent/lease for the next phase of ministry at Central. This is something that has been in the works for quite a few months, and it is something that definitely needed to happen to move this church forward.
Basically, our current facility is in major need of renovation, and it is in a poor location (right in the middle of a low-income, vandalism-heavy community with no visability from any major roads). We pay a little over $5000 a month on the note for our Family Life Center, and also pay anywhere from $4000 - 5000 a month on utilities! Renting a better facility in a better location would give us the boost we need to facilitate growth over the next few years of ministry. Now the major hurdle is finding a buyer for this property, but obviously if God is in it, he will make it happen.
This was an important decision for our church to make, and I'm proud of our membership to see the vision, trust the leadership, and vote to move forward. I'll keep you updated of the progress.
